Since 02:25 tonight, both switches in building 26C are no longer accessible. We will send a volunteer member there as soon as possible.
Probably due to age, the fiber optic cables fell off the welded connectors in the cabinet in a chain reaction. As a result, the switches failed one after the other tonight. A recent investment by Selfnet has now paid off very well. We recently got our own fiber optic splicing device. With it, the problem could be repaired at short notice in an emergency solution. Without our own device, the outage could have continued until after the weekend. We will now order new material and then install the cable properly again, so that it will hopefully work again for 20 years.
We were able to reconnect the switches to our network. More information will follow. The internet is working again now.
In the meantime, we were able to take a closer look at the problem. The hardware installed in the building does not cause a problem. However, there is no link on the fiber from our server room. We are now diagnosing in more detail whether the problem is with the fiber optics or the cable.
A first restart of the hardware in the building showed no improvement. We must therefore go into the problem search more precisely. However, this will only be possible towards the afternoon or evening.
