SelfStreaming (IPTV) SelfStreaming offline due to construction works

Due to construction works of the Allmandring 8a building the connection to our satellite dish has been severed. We expect the construction works to be completed in May or June 2025.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Unfortunately we do not have any influence on the construction works of the building.

Dormitory Network Kubernetes outage

IPv6-Routing issues are affecting the reachability of our kubernetes cluster. Therefore the services running within the kubernetes cluster are not reachable. This causes an outage for the following services:

  • Selfnet WiFi (Selfnet and Selfnet PSK), as the database required for authentication and authorization is not reachable
  • mySelfnet
  • Registration
  • Selfnet Website
  • Selfnet Dashboard
  • Our internal member management system, therefore currently we can not process requests about your membership
  • A problem with the routing daemon on our virtualisation hosts resulted in incorrect IPv6 routing. After restarting the routing daemon on all hosts, the affected services were operational again.

Dormitory Network Outage in the north of Stuttgart

There is a larger fiber cut at a supplier for Selfnet in Stuttgart. The following halls of residence are currently affected:

    • Herriegel
    • Brückenstraße
    • In der Au
  • Between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. tonight, all affected halls of residence went back online. This means that the fault clearance from the fiber provider was completed within the agreed 8 hours, which is the best result for Selfnet.

  • The emergency connection for Herriegel and In der Au is restored. The connection is very slow, as mobile phone reception is not optimal even in the basement of Herriegelstraße and over 200 people have been reconnected. In the interests of everyone, we would like to continue to point out that the Internet should only be used for the most necessary things for the time being and no high-bandwidth applications such as video streaming should be used. We will inform you here as soon as the lines are working again. The dormitories In der Au and Herriegel will also automatically switch to the fast connection as soon as the fiber optics are working again.

  • We are currently on our way to the Herriegel dormitory to install the emergency solution for Herriegel and In der Au. On the way, we saw the spot where the cable is broken. On site we could see 5 Bulli cars and a splicing tent. So they seem to be working on the maintenance with sufficient resources.

  • We now know that we are not the only customer affected and that the fault clearance may take some time due to the nature of a major fault. We will try to find an emergency solution for the Herriegel and In der Au halls of residence this evening until around 10pm - 11pm. We hope that this will work, depending on the mobile reception in the respective room. However, the bandwidth of this solution is very limited. It is therefore advisable to refrain from using bandwidth-hungry services such as video streaming in the two halls of residence before a complete solution is found. For cost and environmental reasons, we only keep one of these emergency solutions in our warehouse via mobile radio. In addition, our technology room in Brückenstraße is so deep in the basement that it will be difficult to connect a backup via a mobile phone system. So unfortunately there is nothing we can do but wait for the fault to be cleared. It is currently expected that all optical fibers will be cleared in the course of Thursday 27.04.2025. Due to the fact that Selfnet generally orders all fibers with the highest service level, it is to be expected that our fibers will not be the last and will be in the priority list before customers without this extended service. We hope for the best for our members and apologize for the inconvenience.

  • The contracts concluded by Selfnet with the provider agree on fault clearance within 8 hours of the error message. We opened the ticket with the provider at 18:05. This means that Selfnet took about 1.5 hours to identify the problem with the honorable members of the suspected outage at 16:24.

According to the agreement between Selfnet and the fiber optic provider, a fault clearance would be expected by about 2 o'clock tonight. However, it is possible that so many fibers are damaged that it is not technically possible to clear everything within the 8 hours. We are hoping for the best and are checking whether we can provide a temporary solution.

We will publish further information here.
